I always prefer to use Kasperky over Avast or McAfee. Kaspersky is much better in detecting new viruses and it does not consume too much resources on your desktop PC.*,"

Word this morning is that conficker / conflicker has "awakened" so to speak, and is updating itself to a variant labeled Conficker_E / Conflicker_E via peer-to-peer connection between infected machines. It has also apparently finally begun delivering a payload which experts believe includes:

- A keylogger for stealing passwords and account data.
- A spambot for sending loads of spam from infected machines
- And an extortion-ware variant of the "XP ANTIVIRUS 2009 / ANTIVIRUS 360" malware that's been tricking people into handing over their credit card info to purportedly buy the "fix" (More info on extortion-ware at http://www.geekablog.com/?p=278 )

So infected users can finally expect their PCs to act like they're infected, and uninfected users can expect, well... more spam :(

Interestingly, the conflicker worm is expected to unload itself from infected machines on may 3rd, but is expected to leave a port open for future re-infiltration.
